Zero Waste feedback.

What is Zero Waste movement:

Zero Waste is a goal that is ethical, economical, efficient and visionary, to guide people in changing their lifestyles and practices to emulate sustainable natural cycles, where all discarded materials are designed to become resources for others to use. Zero Waste means designing and managing products and processes to systematically avoid and eliminate the volume and toxicity of waste and materials, conserve and recover all resources, and not burn or bury them.
Implementing Zero Waste will eliminate all discharges to land, water or air that are a threat to planetary, human, animal or plant health.

Some basic tips on how to Zero Waste:

  • Buy fruit and vegetables on your own fabric bags.
  • Do not use plastic bags or cups. You can use and refill your own thermos or glass bottle.
  • Choose unpackaged cargo.
  • Use bamboo or glass or stainless steel straws.
  • When you clean the house use only vinegar.
  • Choose second hand clothes or clothes made from cannabis and cotton.
  • DIY gifts, gift experiences like concert tickets etc instead of things.
  • Use a rechangeable pen.
  • Make your own soap.
  • Never use products that contain polyethylene. Check if your products are eco-friendly: ewg.org
  • Use metal razor and a bamboo toothbrush.
  • Compost.

My experience so far:

I've been into zero waste for almost two months. At first it was a hard trip but then it got easier.  It is EASY to carry things into cloth bags and get rid of plastic. But sometimes you have to buy milk or something else in tetrapack or plastic packaging because there is no other way. (so far for me.) Moreover there are times that you need to buy a plastic bottle of water because you can fill nowhere your personal bottle. Or coffee shops denie to fill coffee into your own bottle. (why tho? we are both wining here) So gradually it is more like a VERY GOOD recycling. And I can see that because I'm throwing away my recycling bag every two or three weeks.
I don't compost my organic waste because I live in a flat but if you have free space to do that it is easy too. Moreover you can reuse many things from your waste and be creative.
You should definitely give it a try!
